Information about Shapella upgrade
Ethereum’s Shanghai and Capella upgrades, also known under the name Shapella, will be carried out in mid-April according to the Ethereum team. To support this upgrade, Bitvavo has planned maintenance of the platform on both the 11th and 13th of April. During this short period of maintenance, you will not be able to deposit and withdraw ETH or ERC-20 assets, trading remains possible. All other Bitvavo services will also continue as usual.
What is the Shapella upgrade?
Shapella is an Ethereum upgrade that will allow users to unstake their ETH deposits from Staking contracts on Ethereum's Proof of Stake network. Stakers act as validators, earning the right to validate transactions in the network by locking their ”stake” of ETH. The upgrade includes changes to the execution layer, consensus layer, and engine API.
What does it mean for you?
For users of Bitvavo, the Shapella upgrade has no consequence other than the scheduled maintenance of our platform. Here you can find more information about the Capella and Shanghai upgrade.
Maintenance
The Bitvavo platform will be under maintenance for a short period of time to support the Shapella upgrade. This is necessary for us to verify that our systems have successfully transitioned. The exact times of the maintenance are:
- On the 11th of April 2023 from 10:00 CEST to 11:00 CEST
- On the 13h of April 2023 from 00:00 CEST to 01:00 CEST. Please note that the timeframe for the 13th of April 2023 is an estimation. The Shapella upgrade will take place at epoch 194,048, therefore there might be a slight change in time depending on when epoch 194,048 will be reached.
During these times of maintenance, customers can not deposit and withdraw ETH or ERC-20 assets. All other services will not be affected.
