AFM issues warning about MEXC
On 24 September 2025, the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) issued a warning about MEXC Global (MEXC), a crypto exchange that is not licensed to offer services in the Netherlands. Read the AFM warning here.
According to the AFM:
MEXC is operating without authorization under Dutch law.
It’s unclear which legal entity is responsible for its operations.
The platform targets Dutch users despite lacking the required license.
Consumers face high risks, as there are no guarantees on how their assets are handled or protected.
What this means for you
With the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) now in effect, only licensed crypto service providers can legally operate in the EU. This ensures transparency, asset protection, and compliance with anti-money laundering standards.
At Bitvavo, we fully support this regulatory framework and the warning issued by the AFM.
Important notice
Your safety comes first. Proceeding with withdrawals to MEXC is at your own risk.
Bitvavo strongly advises against transferring funds to MEXC or any platform not authorized to operate in the Netherlands.
