Bitvavo Convert: Swap crypto in one step

Swapping one crypto asset for another should be straightforward. With Bitvavo Convert, you can exchange one crypto asset directly for another within your portfolio in a single transaction.

Available on both the App and Web, Bitvavo Convert allows you to swap over 350 crypto assets efficiently without the need to place separate sell and buy orders.

Why swap crypto?

If you hold Bitcoin and want ETH, the traditional process involves:

• Selling Bitcoin (trading fee applies)

• Buying ETH (another trading fee applies)

This requires two separate transactions and two trading fees. With Convert in the Bitvavo App, you can swap Bitcoin directly for ETH in one step. A single trading fee applies to the full Convert transaction, rather than two separate trades.

How Convert works in the Bitvavo App

In the Bitvavo App, crypto-to-crypto conversion is executed as a single transaction. Follow these steps: 

1. Go to your portfolio and tap the blue button → Convert
   or open an asset and tap the Convert icon.

2. Select the crypto you want to convert.

3. Select the crypto you want to receive.

4. Enter the amount you want to convert.

5. Tap Preview to see the quote, including the rate and fee.

6. Tap Convert to complete the transaction.

Once confirmed:

• The transaction is executed immediately.

• One trading fee applies.

• After execution, the transaction is recorded in the transaction history of both assets:

  • The crypto you converted to

How Convert works on Bitvavo Web

1. Go to the Asset Detail page of the cryptocurrency you want to convert.

2. Open the Trade section and click the Convert tab next to the Buy and Sell options.

3. In the Convert flow:

   • Enter the amount of crypto you want to convert.

   • Select the asset you want to receive.

   • Review the estimated amount you will receive.

4. Check all details on the preview screen before confirming the conversion.

5. Just like in the App, once the order is executed, the transaction is recorded in the transaction history of both assets: 

   • The crypto you converted from

   • The crypto you converted to

Convert with price guarantee

Bitvavo Convert uses a price guarantee order to execute the swap. Once you confirm a transaction, the quoted price is secured for up to five seconds. During this period, a market maker assumes the market risk associated with short-term price movements. A spread may be included in the quoted price to account for market volatility and execution risk.

If the transaction is completed within the guaranteed time window, you will receive the amount shown at confirmation.
