Frequently Asked Questions

Bitvavo makes Celer Network as easy as possible. Here are answers to common questions to help you make your first steps in the world of digital assets.

Celer Network is a layer 2 scaling solution designed to address the scalability, transaction speed, and cost issues of blockchains. This solution uses off-chain transactions, meaning that transactions are processed outside of the main blockchain. This allows users to transact quickly and affordably without sacrificing security.

What makes Celer Network unique is its interoperability. It works across different networks, allowing users to make fast, cheap, and secure cross-blockchain and cross-dApps transactions. This is made possible by smart contracts that run on top of different networks, such as Ethereum and Polkadot, and can communicate with each other. CELR is an ERC-20 token and acts as Celer Network’s native cryptocurrency for staking, governance, and payments.

Celer Network has developed several products, including CelerX, a blockchain-based esports platform, and the first mobile SDK for layer 2 scaling solutions. Layer2.Finance is also part of the ecosystem, making DeFi more accessible by reducing costs and simplifying the process. With Layer2.Finance, users can interact with different DeFi products without the high fees normally associated with Ethereum transactions. Additionally, cBridge enables cross-chain interoperability within the Celer Network, allowing users to quickly and securely move assets between different blockchain ecosystems.

Who founded Celer Network?

Celer Network was founded by Mo Dong, Junda Liu, Xiaozhou Li, and Qingkai Liang. These founders all hold PhDs from renowned universities such as Princeton and MIT. In addition, they have gained hands-on experience at leading companies such as Google and Intel. The team has extensive knowledge of blockchain technology and is committed to making blockchain more accessible and efficient.

Celer Network stands out in the blockchain world with its advanced layer 2 solution that enhances scalability and interoperability. The main applications:

  • Fast and cheap transactions: Celer Network allows you to make fast transactions at a fraction of the fees charged by traditional blockchain networks.
  • dApp development: Developers can build decentralized applications (dApps) with low costs thanks to Celer's SDK and mobile application platform.
  • Cross-chain interactions: The network enables transfers and interactions between different blockchain networks, creating a more integrated ecosystem of blockchains.
  • Gaming and esports: Through the CelerX app, users can participate in games and competitions running on the blockchain.

Celer Network is an advanced solution aimed at accelerating and scaling transactions and applications across blockchains.

Off-chain transaction processing

Celer Network processes transactions off-chain. Instead of processing each individual transaction on the blockchain, which can be slow and expensive, Celer Network allows multiple transactions to be processed off-chain. To do this, Celer uses an optimistic rollup. Transactions are approved immediately and then proof of processing is sent to the underlying blockchain to store the transactions.

Afterwards, nodes can flag erroneous transactions so that they can be corrected. This method ensures that the main blockchain is less burdened, allowing transactions to take place faster and cheaper.

State Channels

State Channels are an important part of off-chain transaction processing. Using this technology, a series of transactions can be executed without directly adding them to the blockchain. The transactions take place within a private channel, called a State Channel, and only the final state of this channel is recorded on the blockchain.

Cross-chain interoperability

Using Celer Network’s cBridge, users can send assets and data back and forth between different blockchains, creating a more connected and accessible blockchain ecosystem. This is made possible by Inter-chain Message, a technology that allows Celer to send and receive messages, transactions, and smart contract calls between independent blockchains. The implementation of Inter-chain Message extends the functionality of dApps across different blockchains and enables seamless cross-chain operations.

Consensus and security

Celer Network uses a variant of the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) model, where users can stake CELR tokens to secure the network and participate in the consensus process. In return, they receive CELR tokens.

An additional layer of security is provided by the State Guardian Network (SGN). This network monitors and protects the state of off-chain contracts, especially when users are offline. Users can stake their CELR tokens in the SGN to become part of this network of guardians, who in turn receive rewards for their services. This mechanism provides a reliable and secure way to manage and guarantee off-chain updates

CELR is the native token of Celer Network and has several functions within the network. It is used for paying transaction fees, participating in liquidity pools, and staking for network security. Additionally, the CELR token plays an important role in the governance of Celer Network, as token holders can vote on important network decisions regarding updates and changes. The maximum supply of CELR is limited to 10 billion tokens
Staking CELR tokens allows token holders to actively contribute to the network while earning rewards. Users have the option to lock their CELR tokens into the network via the State Guardian Network or participate in Liquidity Backing Auctions, where they can provide liquidity.

Celer Network stands out thanks to its advanced layer 2 solution that provides enhanced scalability and interoperability. The following features make Celer Network unique:

  • Scalability solution: Celer Network provides a fast and cost-effective way to execute transactions without sacrificing the security or decentralization of the underlying blockchain.
  • Cross-chain interoperability: The network facilitates the transfer of assets and information between different blockchains, allowing users to work across different platforms effortlessly.
  • State Channel Technology: This technology allows users to perform an unlimited number of transactions outside the blockchain, which are only processed at the end. This reduces the burden on the blockchain and enables direct transactions between parties.
  • Innovative products and features: Celer Network has developed several products and features, such as Layer2.Finance, cBridge and CelerX.
